Actor-Comedian, Monkees Singer Among Celebrities Trying To Raise Money For Home safe
BOCA RATON, Fla. — Celebrities took part in a charity golf tournament Monday at the Boca Lago Country Club.
Actor-comedian Damon Wayans and singer Davy Jones of The Monkees were among the celebrities who participated in “The Classic,” which raises money for Home Safe, a nonprofit organization helping abused and neglected children in South Florida.
“They call me ‘Back 9,'” Wayans said. “That’s my nickname.”
Wayans said he was pleased to participate in the event, though he added that he has only “dabbled” in playing golf.
“I think only Tiger Woods plays golf,” Wayans said. “Everybody else dabbles.”
Jones lives in Hollywood and said he “used to play here years ago with the boys,” referring to his fellow band members.
Wayans and fellow actor-comedian Jamie Foxx attended an event gala Sunday night at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino. WPBF News 25’s Jon Shainman emceed the annual fundraiser, hosted by legendary saxophone player Clarence Clemons.
Jones said he was impressed with the outpouring of support.
“In a time of economic change, there are a lot of people still supporting the things they believe in, and Clarence Clemons and friends that he invited and other business people … we just try to help and care when we have the time to get involved,” Jones said.
