Hot Picks: Things to do around the valley
MONKEEING AROUND: Take a dip in a pool of ’60s nostalgia with former teen heartthrobs The Monkees. Forty-five years after the bubblegum pop stars burst on the scene they’ve reunited, save Michael Nesmith, to traverse these United States as their wrinklier, older selves.
And that’s the point of nostalgia isn’t it? To, for a moment or an evening, idealize the past. To remember when these same Monkees had their own TV show, and wore Technicolor ponchos with fresh faces worthy of many a girlish squeal.
Without a doubt, those cries of “I love you Davy!” will still ring out tonight. But they’ll spring from ladies who’ve most likely aged with the band, and maybe their daughters, too.
The Monkees in concert, 9 p.m. today. Morongo Casino Resort and Spa, 49500 Seminole Drive, Cabazon. $55. Information: (800) 252-4499 or www.morongocasinoresort.com.
