Well..this new info only backs what I heard from an “insider” back
late Fall about Rhino Handmade going out of business as we know it.
What I heard along with it was that, Sundazed was going into the
custom CD business (as you can see they have a place for it on their
web site) and this meant Rhino was slowly getting out of it.

Guys,
I was just going through some old e-mails and I saw this. I have some new
info that you might be interested in. Seems someone is pulling your leg
here. I talked to my contact at King Biscuit this week as I was gathering
news for Monkee Business, and they say that none of the post-production wor=
k
has even been started to get the live concert recording ready for CD
release. In fact, Jerry Renino is supposed to be involved with the studio
work, so that the CD will sound as close to the live concerts as possible.
I checked with Jerry and he confirmed what they said and added that he’s
eager to get started on it, too, he’s just waiting for them to say so. So,
as far as release date, King Biscuit is thinking the CD won’t be ready till
late May or early June, DVD release sometime in late 2002, with the hope of
a pay-per-view broadcast in between to promote the DVD.
But my contact *DID* like it when I said that rumors were flying on the
Internet that the CD was supposed to come out very soon—liked the idea of
rumors and buzz about the product and said, “Let’s have more rumors!” 🙂

Peter Tork Stranger Things Have Happened (Beachwood Recordings) Think about=

rainy Saturday afternoons – the ones where you actually get the luxury of
hunkering down on the sofa with a hot cup of something, wrapped up in your=

favorite blanket. OK=85what’s missing? That’s right — music! You need a CD=

that has the perfect mix of nostalgia, whimsy, introspection (big time),
and sensuality to seduce you into a nice sense of security, make you all
misty eyed and dreamy, maybe a little bit horny at some stages, and
definitely, one that gets you thinking and feeling throughout, way deep
down inside.
Who could possibly create something so lovely? Who could make music that
wraps itself around your heart and head like a strong pair of arms keeping=

you safe forever? Who has the chops, head and heart to do something
seemingly insurmountable? I’ll tell you who. Peter Tork, that’s who. Yes,
you heard me – Peter Tork.

Peter has come down a long and thorny path since his Monkees days, and some=

of his trophies are evident here in that he has become a better singer,
songwriter and arranger. There is passion throughout this CD; the loving
care wafts over it and pulls you in. If there was ever an interactive piece=

of music it’s the second cut, “Get What You Pay For”, where Peter feels all=

of his experience and makes you feel it as well, and in the pain there is
pure joy. The title track, “Stranger Things Have Happened” makes you feel
true and unconditional love, because his deep, brown, sensual voice, speaks=

maturely to you with hope resonating in every delicious phrase. The
slightly scolding but very, very sexy “Miracle” makes the brow furrow and
the corner of your lips tighten. You think and feel, but need to figure out=

about what. And “Tender Is” contains wonderful piano parts punctuating
introspection from a man whose life has twisted and turned, who’s loved and=

lost, but whose music alway!
s remains. It, unlike other loves, has been faithful to him, a soulmate and=

unconditional part of his life through thick and thin.

Peter’s solo material defies pigeonholing into any given genre. It’s pure
Peter, and it’s music made to smile to; in some cases, bittersweetly, and
in others, joyously. The cover of the Monkees’ (or more aptly, King and
Goffin’s) “Take a Giant Step” translates beautifully to contemporary
sensibilities, and the wonderful cover of Jackie Wilson’s “Higher and
Higher” is executed in a surprising way. I won’t divulge how, though — you=

need to be as surprised as I was when I first heard it. It will make you
smile and sing, guaranteed. Another secret I won’t divulge is the
surprising cast of back-up vocalists. You have to buy it to find out who
they are. Do you think I really want you to buy this? You bet. I really,
really do. (CDL) Next month’s PROPELLER features an interview with Peter
Tork. Peter and his band Shoe Suede Blues will be touring in mid-March.

Today the Los Angeles Daily News (Feb. 9) ran the obituary for
Jerome Stanley, the NBC executive who helped put The Monkees TV show on the=

air. The headline reads, “Stanley, executive on ‘Trek’, ‘Monkees.'” Of
all the shows he produced, it’s interested that these two shows are the
ones mentioned in the headline!

His obituary reads in part: “Jerome H. Stanley, a longtime
Hollywood executive of more than 50 years, who oversaw such famed series as=

“Star Trek” and “The Monkees,” died at Eisenhower Medical Center in Rancho=

Mirage on Thursday of natural causes. Stanley lived in Studio City…In
1956, Stanley began his 25-year career at NBC, eventually becoming vice
president of film programs. He supervised the development and production
of shows like “Star Trek”, “The Monkees” and “Get Smart.” Stanley was also=

vice president of NBC Productions, where he was responsible for “Bonanza,
“The High Chaparral,” and “My World and Welcome to It.”

I recently talked to a representative of King Biscuit. He said
the Anaheim concert CD has not been released yet, and he didn’t know the
release date, which will be announced on the KB web page. At this time the=

concert will only be available on CD and DVD. I asked if the concert would=

be released on VHS and he said no, because “DVD is the wave of the
future.” I told him a number of fans don’t have DVD players and would
prefer the show on video. He still didn’t think a video release was
likely. If you would like to contact King Biscuit regarding a video
release, you can email through the web page (kingbiscuit.com) or call
1-800-LIVE-CDS, leave a message and someone will call back.

I attended the Anaheim concert, and this show definitely needs to=

be in your collection.

Great news for Minneapolis-St. Paul area fans! I was home sick yesterday
(not so great news) and stumbled upon a Monkees episode on Channel 45
(KSTC) at 4:30 p.m. I called the viewer comment line to thank them and they=

said they have just started this week and will be airing them weekdays at
4:30 p.m. for the foreseeable future! She also seemed very happy to hear
from someone with a positive comment. =3D ]

Also, I went to the concerts at Grand Casino Mille Lacs on January 25th.
They were both great! I made it near the stage for the second concert, got=

some great pictures and was able to touch Davy’s hand! Quite an experience=

for me! I met people there closer to my age (mid 20s) including two
brothers that I encouraged to sign up for this email list (welcome Bill and=

Troy if you are now on here). I also made a new friend with the person who=

sold me great tickets for the second show via ebay. I am encouraging her to=

sign up for this list as well. Thanks for all the hard work everyone does h=
ere!

Monkees mentioned in recent books

In the book Conversations with JK Rowling, page 36, the Harry Potter author=

talks about how she loved to watch the Monkees and was in love with David
Jones when she was younger.

In Dean Koontz’s new book, From the corner of his eye, the Monkees are
mentioned on pages 542 and 545, as a TV show the 3 year old girl character=

enjoys watching.
