Monkees 40th Anniversary Celebration Begins with New Book Release
“Total Control: The Monkees Michael Nesmith Story” updated second edition
now available.
1965 was the year that the pilot episode of “The Monkees”, a TV show about
a musical band was filmed with four unknown actor musicians. To begin the
celebration, Randi Massingill has updated her sell-out first edition of the
biography of Monkee Michael “Wool-Hat” Nesmith with updated information and
additional photos.
“Total Control: The Monkees Michael Nesmith Story” follows the exciting
life of the unofficial leader of The Monkees from his upbringing in Texas,
fame and fortune as Americas favorite TV band, his critically acclaimed
country rock solo career with the First National Band, and then his own
record company Pacific Arts, which was destroyed at the hands of PBS by
multi-million dollar lawsuits.
The famous facts are all covered in this new book, including the details on
how his mother came to invent the Liquid Paper correction fluid, Nesmith’s
invention of the MTV cable TV network, and his win of the first Grammy
award in the category of home video for “Elephant Parts”.
This new edition is a complete re-write of the 1997 edition which features
updates on the 30 year reunion of all 4 Monkees for concert dates and an
ABC primetime TV special. “Total Control” updated edition also features 75
new photos, 2 new updated chapters with the latest on all four Monkees, and
the only known photo of Michael with his father.
Collectors and fans of The Monkees as well as entertainment historians will
love this book which contains numerous interview on the excesses of 60’s TV
production in the story of a performer who made a fortune and lost it – twice!
The book is now available from book stores and can be special ordered for

Due to the recent developments with the pope, CNN’s Newsnight with Aaron
Brown has pushed the Mickey Dolenz story to a later date.

Micky took the stage right on time coming out to the Monkees theme song and
quickly breaking into “last Train to Clarksville”. He had a full band
behind him much like the 2002 tour as a matter of fact there was some
familiar faces in the band. Also of note was that his sister Coco was on
stage with him playing tambourine and doing back up vocals. He also brought
her forward to perform some duets and solo songs. He hit the classics as
well as some of his solo work it was a nice mix. He played for a solid hour
and also revealed a little Monkee trivia. He performed a song entitled “Too
Much Monkee Business” he stated he played this during his audition for The
Monkees. After the show both he and Coco came out to sign autographs and
meet the fans. Another great performance by Mr. Dolenz.

February 25th, I had the pleasure of seeing Micky and Coco perform at the
Wolf Den, Mohegan Sun Casino, in CT. Feel free to visit my website for
pictures
and a review at www.taralane.com/katherine. This show is linked at the lower
left side of the page under Monkee related events and then under the
subheading of Micky. On the far right, if you are interested you can find
Peter Tork’s
latest associated band, Jeff Pitchell and the Texas Floods. Right after the
Micky show, I attended a Jeff Pitchell show in Manchester. The pictures for
that show are not up yet, but, I expect that they will be shortly.
Oh, incase you don’t check out my site, I wanted to share the highlight of my
evening at Mohegan Sun. I got to sing part of Going Down with Micky again!
Thrill of a lifetime for me… Also, I met Donna Dolenz. She is a wonderful
woman!
I’m going to see Peter again this coming weekend in Stanhope, NJ. I hope to
see some of you there for a great show! I hear that they just may be doing
Dress Sexy For Me! One can only hope.
