From: “MRCinJapan”
David Jones may visit Japan again early next year.
On Monday January 10 (public holiday in Japan), 2000, TV Tokyo (channel 12 in
the Tokyo area) will air a special two-hour live programme titled “Kaette-kita
Ohayo Studio (Ohayo Studio Returns)” from 10 am to 12 pm, and Davy may make
an appearance as a special guest. It is still under negotiation at this stage,
however.
Everyone involved in the making of the show twenty years ago will “reunite”
for the special, including the original hosts “Mr. Shiga” and “Ms. Takeya”.
When “Ohaho Studio” was still being aired, they buried a “time capusule filled
with children’s dreams to be opened in twenty years”. As a part of the special,
they are going to open it just as they promised then! The special will probably
show some footage from the original broadcast as well.
This show often featured the Monkees in the early eighties, having special segments
for the Monkees, doing international telephone interviews with the guys live
on the show, and inviting them as guests when they were in Japan.
The producers of the show are currently looking for people to join the live
broadcast of the special among those: who were in the audience in the studio
when David, Micky or Peter made a guest appearance, who used to watch the show,
or who are willing to talk enthusiastically about their memories of the show.
If you are one of those people or if you know anyone who is, please let MRC
know by mail or e-mail by the end of November. Remember, though, David’s possible
guest appearance has NOT been confirmed yet at this stage!

I work at a business publication & picked this off UPI today:
Can’t get enough of David Cassidy or Susan Dey?
For those left unsatisfied by the made-for-TV movie “Come On Get Happy:
The Partridge Family Story”…which airs this Saturday on ABC…the Screen
Gems Network is planning a special presentation of the pilot episode of “The
Partridge Family” on Monday (check local listings).
For those who don’t remember, in “What? And Get Out of Show Business?”
the five music-minded kids persuade their mother to join their band as they
go from playing in their garage to Caesar’s Palace in Las Vegas.
And the rest is television history.
*** As a bonus, the pilot episode of “The Monkees” will finish the hour. In
“Here Comes The Monkees,” the band play a sweet 16 party and help the
birthday girl with her studies. ***

We have a new book for sale at the Videoranch Bookstore. So, now instead of
having 1 book for sale (Nez’ novel) we now have 2 books for sale. We’ve
doubled our inventory! This new book is called “Thrift Store Paintings” and
it’s published by two of Nez’ friends, Ed and Danna Ruscha. Nez took one
look at it and said “We have to have this for Videoranch”. If you like Nez’
quirkiness, you’ll love this book. And you don’t even have to read it, it’s
all pictures! Check it out when you’ve got a chance:

We’re going to be having great holiday deals right after Thanksgiving, and a
few new items for sale as well. Be sure and stop by.
Thanks.

Nez has ad a good year: he completed a bicoastal book tour to promote
his novel, The Long Sandy Hair of Neftoon Zamora (1998, St. Martin’s
Press), and his long-running legal trouble with PBS was finally concluded
in July when attorneys for both parties reached a financial settlement
of an undisclosed amount.
Nez has currently shelved his second novel, The America Gene, in order
to devote his full attention to the making of his movie, “Fried Pies”.
He wrote the screenplay, wrote all the music, and will direct.

In the San Francisco Bay Area, the local public television station, KQED,
channel 9, will play a short student film entitled “Daydream Believer.” It
is playing on Friday, December 3rd, at 10:30pm, Pacific Time. I think it may
be a film by a Monkees fan who subscribes to this wonderful alert system.
Her name is Kelly Peeples, who goes by the nickname Curly Purples, and she is
a film student at San Francisco State University (I least I think this is the
filmmaker). The TV Guide description reads “A drama set in 1967 about a
young girl who has a crush on Monkees band member Michael Nesmith.” Check
your local listings – I don’t know if this is just playing in our area, or on
all the PBS stations.
Thanks!

The following came from an ad from Gary Strobl:
Celebrate the new millennium 2000 with an exclusive 12 month black and
white calendar loaded with three decades of artwork by Neko Chohlis, artist
friend of the Monkees plus more artwork from Nick and Peter LoBianco,
Bernard Yeszin, Frank Morton and Scott Hennig. Also, more historical
information on the Monkees. Each calendar includes a very cool black &
white 11 x 17 poster.
The cover of the calendar contains most of the Monkees logos 1965-1970 and
was designed by Gary Strobl.
Calendars are $15 each postpaid and is a limited edition. Each page is 8
1/2 x 11 and laser printed in black and white on acid free, archival
quality paper.
Make check or money order in US currency only payable to:
Gary Strobl
P O Box 2492
Toluca Lake CA 91610

There’s a new entertainment page with clips from the
Monkees all this week. There’s also a quiz and other
neat things in the Rhino retro part.
