Hey peoples!
In yesterday’s Wall Street Journal (Thursday, July 8), on page B1,
there’s an article entitled “A Hit in U.K., Monkee Wannabes Head for U.S.”
It compares a British group called Miami Seven to the Monkees. “Think
Monkees, only British and very 90’s.” Basically, it’s a group of seven
people, four girls and three guys, with a TV show and selling records. One
of the people was even in Oliver! when he was 12! The premise is that the
group is lured from England to the US by the promise of pop stardom.
However, their supposed “manager” turns out to be a hotel manager and steals
their passports and makes them work in his hotel. The show is scheduled to
premier this fall. The article’s pretty long, but if anyone wants to, email
me and I’ll try to send you the whole thing.
-Stephanie
Oh, also, on 20/20 tonight, in this section about ways to be younger, they
played part of Pleasant Valley Sunday.

I just found out that Davy was in Toronto yesterday with Digpast. Davy
didn’t ride but Digpast rode in the 2nd race. He didn’t do as well as I
hoped, 5th place. I’m so mad I missed seeing it! No picture in the paper
unfortunately.

MICHAEL NESMITH
Nez recently completed a bicoastal book tour to promote his new novel, The
Long Sandy Hair of Neftoon Zamora (1998, St. Martin’s Press). He’s working
on his second novel, and he has been trying to drum up interest in getting
his script, “Fried Pies”, turned into a feature film.
Michael Nesmith’s long-running legal trouble with PBS was finally concluded
in early February when a federal court jury awarded him a settlement of
nearly $47 million dollars. PBS plans to appeal the verdict, a process
that could take another two years.

Subject: Peter Tork Mention in TV Guide
Excerpt from an article in the July 17-23 TV Guide, page 7
Article entitled _Between a Rocker and a Hard Place_
Talks about Steven Van Zandt’s appearance as a hit man on an HBO show called
_The Sopranos_ and speculates about other aging rockers who could do this.
Mention of Peter is as follows:
Peter Tork. The lovable bass and keyboard player for the Monkees won the
hearts of America long ago, in part because he didn’t seem to be playing
with a full deck. Tork would make an excellent out-of-town hit man, because
the victim would never, ever see him coming.

Hi Monkee fans,
I was watching a 1987 episode of ‘Macgyver’ the other day on WGN. In
the episode Macgyver and 2 other good buddies reunite and work together as a
team. At one point one friend says “Isn’t this great us being back together
– just like the Monkees!” I thought that was cool.

Ex-Monkee Says No More Reunions
Friday, July 30, 1999
Bad news for fans of the 1960s sitcom The Monkees tambourine-banging cast
member Davy Jones says there will be no more live reunions of TV’s pre-fab
four.
“I believe The Monkees, as a live band performing together, will never happen
again,” Jones reveals on an E! True Hollywood Story about the group (August
1, 9 pm/ET). “I can assure you there’ll be no more Monkees for me.”
Jones is still steaming over band member Michael Nesmith’s decision to
suddenly drop out of the group during its last reunion tour in March 1997.
Nesmith had performed along with fellow bandmates Jones, Micky Dolenz and
Peter Tork for the tour’s kickoff concerts in the U.K. but didn’t show up for
rehearsal when the tour moved to the U.S.
“I haven’t spoken to him since and neither has Micky and neither has Peter,”
