Monkees Cover “What Am I Doing Hangin’ Round” Michael Nesmith Michael Martin Murphey
Here’s a version of “Hangin’ Round” that we did a month ago or so. I’m not much for playing this song, but Joe loves it so I suffered through it. Personnel: Geoff Lucas: guitar, reluctant vocals Joe Alterio: enthusiastic pedal steel
Michael Nesmith “Tantamount To Treason” Medley Monkees
Here’s a medley we did of the songs from Michael Nesmith’s classic album “Tantamount To Treason Vol 1”. As you can see, we know some of the songs here better than others. We only recorded one take. Personnel: Geoff Lucas – guitar/vocals Joe Alterio – guitar/backing vocals
Michael Nesmith tribute Monkee Business Part 5 of 6
Part 5 of 6 of a tribute by PJ Lennon on 10Radio to the genius that is Michael (Papa Nez) Nesmith, one of the Monkees. The PJ Lennon and Barry Show feat Dr Colin on 10Radio – www.10radio.org based in Wiveliscombe Somerset in the UK. The more that one learns about this giant among men, the more that one wants to learn.
Monkees Cover The Crippled Lion Michael Nesmith
Here we are again with our first “full band” performance on Youtube. We hastily threw this together (as always) so it’s far from perfect. Just wanted to do a little experiement. BTW, I can’t find our original video of “The Crippled Lion” that some of you have re-requested. So we made this one. Personnel: Geoff Lucas – acoustic guitar, drums, vocals. Joe Alterio – bass, pedal steel guitar.
Monkees “Tapioca Tundra” Cover Song Mike Nesmith
Here’s a version of Tapioca Tundra that we did. It’s a little on the slow side and we screwed up the middle part, but who’s keeping track? 🙂 Personnel: Geoff Lucas – Acoustic Guitar, Vocals Joe Alterio – Electric Guitar, Backing Vocals
The Monkees feat. Richard Kiel – “Good Clean Fun” – ’67
The boys knock heads with “Jaws” – from the Bond movies.
Monkees Cover “Naked Persimmon” Mike Nesmith
Here we are again, this time recreating that great scene from 33 1/3 Revolutions Per Monkee, with the dual action Nesmiths. Personnel: Geoff Lucas – electric guitar, vocals Joe Alterio – electric guitar, vocals
Good Clean Fun – Michael Nesmith Monkees Tribute
Another Audacity experiment in Mono. It’s a Michael Nesmith track from one of the later Monkees albums.
Monkees “Sunny Girlfriend” Cover Mike Nesmith
Here’s us trying our hand at the Nesmith Classic “Sunny Girlfriend”. Personnel: Geoff Lucas – 12 String Guitar, Vocals Joe Alterio – Bass Guitar, Backing Vocals
The Door Into Summer Monkees Mike Nesmith Cover
From my second favorite Monkees album, Pisces, Aquarius, Capricorn, and Jones, Ltd. (after Headquarters)… This is a fabulous song..
Monkees “Auntie’s Municipal Court” Cover Mike Nesmith
Here’s our take on “Auntie’s Municipal Court”, warts and all. It’s hard to pull off all those great guitar parts with only two people, but we tried to add bits of as many of them as we could. Personnel: Geoff Lucas – Acoustic Guitar, Vocals Joe Alterio – Electric Guitar, Backing Vocals
Monkees “Magnolia Simms” Cover Mike Nesmith
Okay, things got a bit outta hand and this happened. An off the cuff cover of one of the strangest, most obscure Monkees/Nesmith tunes. What can I say? We were bored! Personnel: Geoff Lucas – Guitar, Vocals Joe Alterio – Pedal Steel Guitar
Michael Nesmith Cover “Joanne” Monkees
Well, we’re back again. This time, it’s Nez’s most famous solo recording, “Joanne”. We botched up the first few attempts, but I thought it was kind of amusing, so I left that part in. A special dedication to Eric Lefcowitz, the author of the book “The Monkees Tale” is also included. Personnel: Geoff Lucas – vocals, acoustic guitar Joe Alterio – pedal steel guitar
Monkees Cover ‘Propinquity” Michael Nesmith
We’re back!
Little Darlin’- The Monkees
Another clip from 33 1/3 Revolutions Per Monkee. I would just like to clear something up for the record. From things I have read online, there has been a lot of disregard for this 50’s part of the film and how it was thought as disrespect for the 50’s. Well in the commentary, Micky Dolenz was saying how much respect he had for the 50’s and how much it was a treat for him to be filming this part with all these legends and classic songs. So yeah. Btw i have no idea what davy is doing with his arms or who he’s trying to impersonate.
The Monkees Where Are They Now 1982
Dick Van Patten hosts this rare clip about the Monkees and what they were up to circa 1982. I don’t recognize the non-concert footage of Peter. Nice haircut Davy! Sorry about the quality.

The Monkees- I Wanna Be Free [Live in Holland]
Here is an another piece of this wonderful concert. The Monkees live concert [21-04-1989] in the Netherlands. Featuring Davy Jones, Peter Tork & Micky Dolenz
Monkees “Listen To the Band” & “Porpoise Song” 1997
All four Monkees doing “Listen To The Band” and “Porpoise Song” 3-18-97. This includes a back-up band complimenting the fours Monkees. This was part of a tour of Europe in the spring of 1997 that included Mike Nesmith.
The Monkees – Head – vocal overdub mixing
Rough mix of the live ‘Circle Sky’ as used in the film, with Mike Nesmith’s overdubbed vocals seemingly in the process of being mixed into the track (includes an abandoned attempt at the start where the vocals are too low in the mix – which cuts abruptly and gets rewound). Audio synced with the actual movie footage, cropped to its original 1:85.1 aspect ratio, and a couple of the Vietnam clips replaced with colour versions of the same from ‘Hearts and Minds’ (1974).
The Monkees – “Different Drum” from “Too Many Girls”
Michael Nesmith gets his song “Different Drum” on the Monkees! To keep Davy and new stars in his eyes girl Fern from winning the contest and helping Fern’s manipulating mother, Micky, Peter and Mike enter the contest to give each other time to sabotage Fern and Davy’s act. Michael Nesmith gives another hilarious performance. The Monkees belong to Raybert Productions and Columbia Records.
Zilch
This one was really fun to make. I do not own this song.
The Monkees – “Tapioca Tundra”
Record released on March 30, 1968. Classic Michael Nesmith composition!
The Monkees- Porpoise Song
from the Soundtrack to the film Head (1968)
The Monkees – “Valleri” – ORIGINAL VIDEO – ’68

Scene from the Monkees episode ‘The Devil & Peter Tork’
Iron Monkees – The Trooper (Believer)
Made a better album cover for this…

Michael Nesmith “While I Cry” Monkees Cover
Here’s another Nesmith cover that my friend Joe and I did. It breaks down in the middle, but I thought it was kinda funny, so I decided to post it anyway. Check out our page at www.myspace.com Geoff Lucas – acoustic guitar, vocals Joe Alterio – electric guitar, backing vocals.
