May 26, 2020 –
As you might imagine, our tour plans for 2020 have been postponed till 2021.
The good news is, we hope to be back on the road in March and will be adding dates to be announced in the coming weeks for 2021. In other words, we may be coming to your town. Please see below for our rescheduled dates that are currently onsale.
All tickets purchased for shows in April 2020 will be valid at the rescheduled date in March 2021. If you have any issue with attending a specific show, please return to your original point of purchase to see what their policy is for resolution. Any issues with the fulfillment of live CDs must be handled directly through Ticketmaster.
Mike & Micky do not get paid anything from the ticket sales until after a show is performed. And since no shows have been performed on our tour, the power is purely with the ticket sellers now to clear the road for us to return as soon as it is safe for all of us.
Our live album – THE MONKEES LIVE: THE MIKE & MICKY SHOW – is streaming and available now on CD from Rhino. The vinyl version has been delayed a bit in the USA to July 10, 2020. Many of our fans overseas had to wait a little longer for the CD, but they got their vinyl release ahead of the States.
The tracklisting for the vinyl, CD and streaming versions of the album are the same globally: 25 fantastic songs recorded live in 2019, mixed beautifully by Christian Nesmith. We have two live videos from the record you can watch now: https://www.youtube.com/user/themonkees/videos
We hope to have another special video event for the U.S. vinyl release – stay tuned for all the Monkees news & updates.

Review by Fred Velez
While there have been previously released Live recordings of The Monkees, this new album featuring Michael Nesmith and Micky Dolenz from their recent 2018/2019 tour is the best sounding one. Mike and Micky are in great voice throughout and the backing band are sterling.
Produced by Andrew Sandoval and mixed by Nesmith’s son Christian, the sound is incredible and beautifully arranged on this set. The band is nice and tight, aided by the backing vocals of Micky’s sister Coco Dolenz and Circe Link. When the voices blend you can almost hear the harmonies of the late Davy Jones and Peter Tork in there. While they are dearly missed, the two missing Monkees are well represented by respectful renditions of their songs ‘A Little Bit Me, A Little Bit You’, ‘For Pete’s Sake’ and ‘Daydream Believer’. Davy and Peter would have been proud.
The performances of Monkees’ classics like ‘Last Train To Clarksville’, ‘I’m A Believer’, ‘Pleasant Valley Sunday’, ‘Goin’ Down’ and more are kept to their original arrangements adding to the fun of the album. Special gems like the ‘Good Times!’ selections ‘Birth Of An Accidental Hipster’, ‘Me & Magdalena’ and the previous rarity ‘St. Matthew’ are welcomed additions to The Monkees song canon. The songs from the movie ‘Head’, the lovely ‘As We Go Along’ and a ferociously played ‘Circle Sky’ are especially delightful.
There are so many highlights to this album that it’s hard to single out just one. Some that stand out are ‘Auntie’s Municipal Court’, the ‘Good Times! songs, ‘The Girl I Knew Somewhere’, an acoustic ‘Randy Scouse Git’, ‘Sweet Young Thing’ and ‘Tapioca Tundra’. The performance of ‘Listen To The Band’ is particularly sublime. The affection between Nesmith and Dolenz is obvious in their stage chatter during their acoustic performance of ‘Papa Gene’s Blues’.
Because of the current health situation, the 2020 Monkees tour has been postponed for later this Summer. For those who attended the shows in 2018 before Nesmith’s health scare and the resumed 2019 tour, this album is a perfect souvenir for fans who attended these shows. For those waiting for the current tour to resume, this should tide them over till then.
Needles to say, ‘The Monkees Live – The Mike & Micky Show’ should be an essential part of every Monkees fans’ collection. Close your eyes while you’re listening and you’re there.

Nez Message on Mike/Micky Tour

Message from Michael Nesmith’s Facebook page:
“Heading to LA tomorrow for meeting and a hang with Mick. Have to cook up the M&M shows. Right now no clue what to do other than Monkees songs — which are of course a lock.
i didn’t expect to go out again singing Monkees songs — but here I am looking at dates with Mick for the month of June — the beginning of Summer, I think — dates are posted at most of the Monkees sites and here — but the set list doesn’t exist yet.
M and I will sit around and sing try to find out what makes sense with the two of us — maybe the occasional guest.
As I write this I put on Chris Smither’s “Live as I’ll Ever Be” and its lifting me up into the skies of songs — opening up settlements where we might perch and gaze out for miles and miles and sing and play the Music.
If all goes as planned I think we will put together a fine show.
I love singing with Mick — this will be the first time an M&M show will be realized — after all these years.
As I say I suppose we will play the deep cuts from the Monkees catalog — and songs M&I have written over the years — and as we are blessed we will find the space that the great live players find over the years — those deep and real places that are undeniable, that leave no question unanswered — and to me that is a definition of Smithers concert and his magic acoustic guitar. So I am listening closely to him– learning what I can.
Maybe M&M can “Kill the Blues” like Chris —
Anyway, I’m looking forward to the trip and to seeing Mick appear singing along beside me in the same room. One of my life’s gifts and blessings.”
Two Monkees On: First Ever Michael Nesmith and Micky Dolenz Tour Starting in June
February 19, 2018 by M.A. Cassata
Filed under M.A. Cassata, news feed
New York— The Monkees’ Michael Nesmith and Micky Dolenz are hitting the road in June for their first-ever tour as a duo. They’re calling the tour The Monkees Present: The Mike and Micky Show (as opposed to simply The Monkees) because their fellow surviving bandmate Peter Tork is not participating. Though the set centers around the classic group’s vast catalog, Nesmith and Dolenz plan to roll out deep cuts and rarities. “It will be very different than a Monkees show,” Nesmith said in January. “I mean, it’ll be Monkees music, but there’s no pretense there about Micky and I being the Monkees. We’re not. We’re the remnants.”
The Monkees reformed in 1986 shortly after MTV put their old television show into heavy rotation, earning them an entirely new generation of fans. With the sole exception of a brief fun of U.K. show in 1996, Michael Nesmith didn’t participate in any of the reunion tours. Shortly after the death of Davy Jones, however, he stunned fans by returning to the group for three consecutive summer tours. He participated in their 50th anniversary LP Good Times! in 2016, but he stepped away from their touring outfit, leaving Micky Dolenz and Peter Tork to continue as a duo.
On September 16th, 2016 Nesmith – who recently resurrected his early 1970’s country rock band the First National Band in early 2018 – played a show with the group at the Pantages Theater in Los Angeles that was billed as a farewell to Monkee Mike. He doesn’t view this tour as a reversal of that decision. “This isn’t Monkee Michael and Monkee Micky going out,” he told Rolling Stone. “[But] we’re using the Monkees logo and name to promote it.”
Peter Tork explained in a press release that he was skipping the tour to focus on his upcoming Lead Belly tribute album, Relax Your Mind. “I have in general made no secret of the fact that all these recent years of Monkees-related projects, as fun as they’ve been, have taken up a lot of my time and energy,” he said. “Moving forward, I have blues projects that I want to give my attention to, hence Relax Your Mind. So, I’m shifting gears for now, but I wish the boys well, and I’ve learned to never say never on things further down the line.”
Nesmth also hinted that there might be slightly more to Tork’s decision than the need to focus the Lead Belly album. “I’m afraid I would betray a confidence if I said any more than, ‘This is not a right time for him,’” he told Rolling Stone. “He has his reasons. They are very private.”
Even without Tork, the tour will be a great chance for Monkees fans to see Dolenz and Nesmith explore parts of the catalog that past tours have neglected. “These 16 special performances will feature songs that span the group’s entire career – from its 1966 eponymous debut to 2016’s Good Times,” reads the press release. “The shows will highlight many of Nesmith’s compositions, including some that have never been performed live.”
“I love being onstage with Micky,” Nesmith says in a statement. “We’ve been collaborating for over 50 years, so it’s hard to believe it’s never been just the two of us. I’m excited to dust off some tunes that I haven’t played for a long time too.”
Dolenz concurs. “Right from the get-go, I admired Mike’s songs,” he said in a statement. “When we used to get together around the campfire to sing in the early days, we were always doing his songs. We always had such a great a vocal blend; he was the one who encouraged me to write songs of my own. I’ve always been a big fan and now we finally get to do the Mike & Micky show that we riffed on back when we were shooting The Monkees.”
